Need for waterproofing

Terrace waterproofing is a very critical area as it is always exposed to harsh weather conditions, climatic changes and rains. The terrace surface tends to accumulate rain water which in due course starts seeping inside the slab. Over time the deterioration of the surface will increase leading to more damage.

Healthy Tips

Following areas need to be given special attention while waterproofing

  • Pipes running over the roof or parapet wall
  • Electric wires or cables conduits
  • Rain water drain outlets with proper size and number
  • Threshold at the stair case door
  • Water tank, dish antenna, split AC unit bases
  • During surface preparation an important thing is the fitting of drain outlets

Solution

  • Terrace surface should be dry and free from all kinds of contamination
  • All loose and de-bonded concrete should be removed and proper repairing to be carried out using polymer modified mortar admixed with  Fixit Pidicrete URP
  • Fixit Roofix Drain is aligned with the drain down take pipes

Application

Dr. Fixit Roofseal & Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP

  • Brush apply two coats of liquid waterproofing membrane Dr. Fixit Roofseal with time interval of 6-8 hrs between the coats
  • Extend the coating up to 100-150 mm on the vertical parapet walls
  • The application of each coat shall be in perpendicular direction to the subsequent coat
  • Allow Dr. Fixit Roofseal to air cure for 72 hours before conducting the water ponding test
  • Lay a 150 gsm geotextile fabric all over the coated surface of Dr. Fixit Roofseal to prevent it from getting damaged while laying the concrete screed
  • Lay concrete screed of M20 grade to provide slope (1:100) for effective and efficient drainage of water. The thickness of screed at the drain end shall be 50 mm minimum
  • The drain is fitted by carefully aligning and fitting using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP modified mortar. During the fitting care is taken to provide a catchment area at the drain area aligned with the slope provided in the screed. Dr. Fixit Roofseal coating is done along the fitting area as an additional coating before proceeding for final coating
